A brand new song has this week been released to celebrate the launch of MGSO4: Epsom & Ewell Arts Festival, by local songwriter and musician Ben Tompsett.

Schools and children’s choirs across the borough have received copies of the uplifting, pop ballad Built To Last, sung by 12-year old Beth Keens, from Epsom Downs. Children are being encouraged to learn the chorus and second verse, and join in with a flashmob-style performance at the festival on 25th June.

Ben said: “The message and meaning behind the song lyrics inspire positivity which is great for the younger generation. 'Built to Last' was specifically written to showcase the huge amount of talent we have in the borough but it is also a great representation of the enormous amount of hard work that's gone into getting this festival off the ground.”

Alongside songwriting, producing and performing, Ben also runs two youth Jazz groups in Epsom and teaches locally. He is also Music Lead for the arts festival.

Ben added: “I am very lucky to have found a fantastic young vocalist in Beth Keens, who has recorded the original version of the song and will also lead the live performance. Beth sounds wonderful singing this song and is a brilliant example of the sort of young talent we have right on our doorstep.”

Beth first started singing lessons when she was nine years old, and attends Stagecoach Epsom. She hopes to pursue a professional singing career.

Tim Miles, MGSO4 Festival trustee and Director at Warner Music said: “Built To Last is a magical song and a perfect vehicle to bring together the community with its soaring choruses and positive message. This is Epsom and Ewell's own 'Disney moment'.”
